What would be the economics of this change: (i) free 2-hour parking downtown, & (ii) each merchant/restaurant, etc.
adds $1.00 to each purchase/meal, paid to the city in lieu of the parking. Parking fees are aggravating, while another
dollar on a $20-25 meal or a $6.00 coffee, or a $20 purchase, is almost invisible.
Maybe there are other creative choices.
Sunday mornings are dynamic downtown with no parking charges. A couple times a month we walk around downtown
on Sunday mornings and enjoy the scene with lots of young people and families. Great to do when family or friends are
visiting. We have a cup of coffee and maybe lunch.
We had dinner Sunday evening downtown, which seemed dead. Parking meter was dirty and difficult to read. While
trying to figure it out, the time lapsed so I had to start over. I rushed and chose the wrong time and had to walk back to
the meter in the middle of the meal. A downer. Usually we choose a restaurant outside downtown so we don’t have to
deal with parking.
I’m a big fan of the proposed parking structure and new Rep. Great additions to the city. So I favor finding the funding by
some means.
Best regards as you figure this out.
