Council, Mayor and City Manager,
I wrote a letter to you 4 years ago asking why the planned Arts District parking structure was not moving forward. I
received a letter from the City Manager that the city was waiting to asses the need for the structure and citing
autonomous cars as a reason why we may not need the structure. That is not forward thinking, that was wishful
thinking. Now you are finally realizing the need for the structure but it is too late. The costs have skyrocketed and there
is little reason for anyone to go to downtown. You cannot compare our parking rates to “the average”, and by the way
you do not define where you came up with the average parking rate. Are you comparing downtown SLO with Los
Angeles, or San Jose?
Regarding the park-lets taking up parking downtown, either get rid of them or make the businesses who want them pay
for them.
I am extremely disappointed in this city's leadership. These issues should have been addressed proactively. Now we all
will suffer a downtown full of thrift stores and bars. Thank you for ruining a once beautiful and vibrant downtown.
