Hello council members,
I am a 26 year old local who works for DowntownSLO Association at the farmers markets on Thursdays in addition to
volunteering at HumanKind. I love San Luis and the downtown area specifically and am confident that it can continue to
be a bustling area featuring a variety of local shops and restaurants but I am also well aware of the stress from the
pandemic on everyone.
I believe that voting to eliminate the free hour of parking in the structures and increase parking prices will negatively
impact the businesses downtown. After the recent parking price increase last year, we are already higher than the
average parking price in other cities in the state, most of which offer some amount of free parking.
I understand building of the additional parking structure is a great opportunity for the downtown area but I believe that
there are better ways to pay for that. I regularly park in the structures and find that about 80% of the time the gates are
open and no one is there to take my money when it is during the enforced parking hours. Instead of increasing prices
and eliminating the free hour, we should focus on actually enforcing the current prices.
Please consider this when voting today, I want nothing more than to continue to enjoy a lively downtown and be able to
justify the cost of my involvement with two downtown businesses.
Thanks you,
Anna Mullen
