Are there no rational people on the City Council? Are our tax dollars going to employ irrational staff? As the Tribune has
it, your parking plans are nuts! I enjoy a leisurely luncheon downtown, but will find other venues when an $8.00 parking
fee is included
Downtown has already become annoying with the tacky-looking parklets filling the streets and sidewalks, and to add
insult to injury they are empty 80% of the time. The situation on Higher is especially unpleasant. The Ficus trees already
create such a dense shade that it looks dark on even the brightest day. But now with parklets cluttering the street and
sidewalks the street looks like a dirty messy dark tube. And to make it worse, you have lost thousands of dollars in
parking fees since parklets went up. They may have helped restaurants during the pandemic, but people can eat indoors
now, and the restaurants were all making a profit before the pandemic. Now these tables on already narrow sidewalks
and streets are a mess. Get rid of the parklets as other towns have done, bring back on street parking spaces to
generate money, and rethink your parking fees before everyone avoids downtown.
