Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Honorable Members of the Council, Please reconsider staff recommendations for increasing parking rates and fees. Like so many others in the community, I firmly agree that doubling these costs will have an overwhelmingly negative impact on locals who frequent downtown businesses and try to keep it a vibrant business community. It will further hurt employees of those businesses who have no other option than to park downtown, myself included. While other costs of living have risen at a slow but steady pace, the doubling of parking and fines costs will be a massive immediate hit. I agree with the SLO Tribune's recent editorial and urge the council to find alternative funding sources for the cultural hub (all of downtown is the city's cultural hub, after all) or significantly reduce the proposed increase in parking costs. City residents' patience for these increases to fund culturally important but non-essential projects wore thin long ago, and this proposed increase to parking costs may be a last straw for many. Thank you for your time, -- Matt Fountain (760) 445-9359 1
