Subject:Parking Fees Suggestions

To the San Luis Obispo City Council,
I understand parking fees are on your agenda and I would like to make a couple of small suggestions. First of all, let me
say that I understand the need for the parking fee increases to help pay for a new parking structure.
I'm from Los Osos and actually used to work downtown part-time at Beverly's. Even though Beverly's is closed, I still
enjoy coming into downtown SLO and shopping fairly regularly. I am an older adult, in my 70's, and am in fairly good
physical shape, except for some arthritis. So, while I may shop at one end of downtown for clothing at Apropos, I then
enjoy going to the Creamery at the other end of downtown for fabric at Picking Daisies. Although I like to walk,
sometimes its just too painful, so I move my car (I really don't need a handicapped" license). Which brings me to my 1st
suggestion: please make the parking meters "universal", as Paso Robles does. So, you put your car license number at
one meter when you park initially. Then, the meter holds that in a central system, so you can move your car on the same
"dime"; you don't have to pay again at the next meter. I'd be happy to pay for 2 hours at the first meter, knowing I could
move my car around, as needed. Its not a big deal, but the convenience of that system may help with the sting of
increased parking fees. My second suggestion is that you consider having an "employee" parking area, maybe in one
level of the parking structure. Employees could purchase monthly passes at a reduced fee. Maybe you have something
like that already? I never heard of it when working at Beverly's. So, if something like that exists, maybe get the word
out. A suggested place for the "employee" parking might be the top story of the Marsh street parking structure. I park
there often, since there's an elevator, and have noticed lots of empty spaces.
Thank you for your consideration.
