Supplemental Budget 2022-23 This message is from an External Source. They rely on our locals to utilize the free hour or pay nominal fees while doing some shopping. With e-commerce so readily available, the locals will choose to spend their dollars online. Retailers will be left to hope the tourist weekends and nights compensate but most retailers don’t stay open past 6 pm. They will likely adjust their hours to accommodate tourist trends and downtown will be left with closed doors during the day. This will domino into more staffing challenges as employees have unoccupied jobs at the ready and if they have slow shifts and have to pay large amounts to park downtown, they will leave to go to those other jobs. Additionally, unoccupied parklets are eliminating parking revenue, close parking and/or views of retailer windows. On Higuera alone there is over 400 feet of space occupied by parklets that do not pay for the space. It is time to recoup those fees or remove them. Please find other solutions. Charge a reduced rate for the first hour if it can’t be free. Implement surge pricing and support your locals with lower rates on slower days. Thank you. 1
