Good afternoon, While I appreciate the city's efforts to make downtown more hospitable, doubling the parking fees downtown is, in my opinion, not the way to do this. Clearly parking is a problem downtown given all the new building a loss of adequate parking. As a longtime resident, pre pandemic, I frequented downtown and have tried to do so more lately. The two hour parking limit at kiosks is frustrating (and they are frustrating to use and the parking structures are dark) if one wants to get a nice meal, walk around the charming downtown and browse. That is not enough time with out having to constantly check the clock and run back to the meter. I support Jim Dee’s comments in the New Times which asks that the city return ticketing until 6 pm. And I will add that a 50% increase for meter and parking structure parking is too much all at once. The city needs to pay for a new parking structure b/c they allowed all the parking lots to be filled without having a plan to accommodate what would happen. Residents love our little city, but this is a lot to ask if you want us to keep supporting our charming jewel of downtown with many of it’s small shops and non chain restaurants, and businesses. Thanks, Madelyn Millholland 1
