The City’s Cultural Heritage Committee will help identify and advise on suitable treatment for archaeological and historical resources; and review new development to determine consistency with cultural resource preservation guidelines or standards Historic Preservation Ordinance § 14.01.030 (C). The Committee shall review and make recommendations on applications and projects which include new construction or alterations located in historic districts or sensitive archaeological sites. Historic Preservation Program Guidelines § 3.2.2 Architectural Compatibility. New development should not sharply contrast with, significantly block public views of, or visually detract from, the historic architectural character of historically designated structures located adjacent to the property to be developed. The removal of distinctive materials or alteration of features, spaces and spatial relationships that characterize a property will be avoided. Standard 9 Related new construction will not destroy historic materials, features, and spatial relationships that characterize the property…. The new work will be differentiated from the old and will be compatible with the historic materials, features, size, scale and proportion, and massing to protect the integrity of the property and its environment. Building Site: Recommended Retain and preserve features of the building site that are important in defining its overall historic character.. Design adjacent new construction to be compatible with the historic character of the site and that preserves the historic relationship between the buildings and the landscape.
