I chose to see it as an opportunity to enhance my business and downtown in general. During a time when materials were 70% more costly than now I built as special a space as possible reflecting my pride in San Luis Obispo and my business. I think keeping the parklet program with design oversite is a benefit to our city and will enhance peoples experience when visiting downtown. We have such a beautiful city and weather that compliments outdoor dining most of the year round. My reservations are regarding pricing. This ask is far too costly during a time in San Luis Obispo when COVID is still in peoples minds, masks remain on many faces and indoor interactions are still uncomfortable for many people. Monkeypox is being mentioned more and more, business is half of what it was last year, gas is over $7.00 a gallon, food prices go up daily, people already feel recession is here, many hours of the day there are more homeless than potential customers walking around, etc, etc. Rents downtown are going to have to change due to vacancies and price per square ft suggested for the Parklets is astronomical. Downtown and businesses downtown need your help more than they ever did even during COVID’s peak. Please consider enforcement and fines for those that don’t comply with strict design and maintenance expectations and don’t punish those who need your support & have gone to great expense to enhance our beautiful downtown. Kindest regards, Steven Goodale 1
