I urge you to stand behind the Roe v, Wade case and protect women and their families by supporting the Right to Reproductive Freedom. How is it a woman can be forced to carry an unplanned pregnancy and there is no mention of how (or by whom) these women (teens/girls) got pregnant?. I am also very concerned that the people making these laws do not understand female reproductive organs. An ectopic pregnancy is not sustainable and can cause irreparable damage, hemorrhaging, or death to the mother. A partial ‘miscarriage’ (also called a spontaneous abortion) is not sustainable. A devastating anomaly found in a late pregnancy deemed 'incompatible to life’ can also cause irreparable damage or death if the fetus dies in utero. I had such a pregnancy in 1988. After irregular ultrasound and a amniocentesis, my baby at 7 months gestation was found to have 69 chromosomes. (Very incompatible with life) I was told my doctor would have to consult the ethics committee at the hospital to perform an abortion. However, at that point, (it took a week for the test results) there was no longer a heartbeat. I was told I could wait for my body to go into labor naturally or be induced. I scheduled an induction for the following Monday. MaryAnne was born on May 17, 1988, 12 oz. She was very much loved and planned for. I can only imagine how much more difficult that time would have been if she had a heartbeat but knowing that she would not survive, I am glad that I had a caring OB/GYN and family for support and that we could make the decision for ourselves. Thankful that I live in California and I am worried for my daughter in Arizona, friends in Texas, and women all over the country. Thank you for your service and supporting the people of San Luis Obispo. Sincerely, Karen Petersen 1482 Ashmore Street, SLO 805-471-1234 1
