Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. I am in support of item #5G - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of San Luis Obispo, California, Affirming Support of Reproductive Freedom. The decision by the United States Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade has left many Americans including myself in a state of shock and disbelief. For the United States to turn their back on pregnant persons when they need the most help and support is not only cruel, it is unjust. There are a myriad of reasons for why a person might need an abortion, and government interference is simply not warranted in these very private health care decisions. The City must make the commitment to oppose any law or regulation that poses a threat to our reproductive freedom. While California has continuously supported a person's right to make reproductive health decisions included to have an abortion, it is important that the City I live in does the same. The City of San Luis Obispo needs to affirm that every individual has the right to privacy when it comes to making their own reproductive health choices. In voting for this resolution, the City Council will show its constituents that they proudly support reproductive freedom and will fight against any attempts to regulate it. I am a young professional working in the City of San Luis Obispo. I know that if I were to become pregnant, I would choose abortion. I have $20k in student loans from going to college, and my partner and I (who both work salary jobs) can barely afford a one-bedroom apartment here in SLO. I would not be in the position to care for a child financially in the near future. I would also not bear a child into the world when there are already so many children in the adoption/foster care system who desperately need homes. No one should be denied life saving reproductive health care. Vote in favor of Item 5G to show that the City of San Luis Obispo is committed to protecting a person's reproductive health care decisions.
