Hi SLO City Council,
In the meeting on July 5th, 2022, item 5G is a resolution for the City of San Luis Obispo to "uphold everyone's right to
equality and liberty by protecting their reproductive freedoms." I urge the council to pass this resolution.
This country has been in an upheaval since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the recent Dobbs vs. Jackson
decision. Women and people with uteruses in 26 states across the country have suddenly had their right to liberty and
privacy stripped from them, with state governments forcing them to give birth against their will. Carrying a pregnancy to
term is a life-altering and life-threatening event, and to force someone to go through that process goes against the core
American idea of the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
In a critical time like this, it is especially important for this council to tell the people of SLO that they uphold people's
freedom to decide when, how, and if they want to start a family.
