To the City Council of San Luis Obispo:
During the meeting on July 5th, 2022, I ask you to please vote to affirm abortion rights in San Luis Obispo when voting
on item #5G.
People with uteruses deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies and make decisions that support their
mental and physical health and well-being. Abortion is about so much more than just the ability to choose whether or
not to carry a baby to full term. It’s about ensuring the safety of people with uteruses. It’s about the ability to utilize
fertility procedures such as IVF. It’s about the removal of a fetus that has died in the womb. It’s about the mental health
of a child who was raped and has to carry a baby to full term and then suffer the additional trauma of giving up a baby
because they do not have the financial or social support to raise that child.
As Americans and citizens of SLO County, we are collectively suffering enough. Please do not add to the pain and
suffering of the people of this county.
Bodily autonomy is a human right, and the ability to have the freedom to make choices for our own bodies is the
popular opinion of our country and state. Please vote to affirm abortion rights on July 5th.
