Dear Mayor Stewart & Council Members,
I am writing to encourage the council to approve and authorize all staff recommendations for the 2022 Pedestrian
Improvements Project. These improvements will create safer infrastructure for people who walk & bike and encourage
more people to replace their car trips with active forms of transportation.
The road diet plans for Jonhson will be great for people who bike. My wife and I regularly commuted our two children by
cargo bike from around 2018-2022 to a preschool on Johnson and never felt safe riding on Johnson due to the high
speeds and narrow bike lanes. The crossing improvements at Johnson/Sydney will be greatly appreciated as a safe route
to school to fill the gap between controlled crossings. As a point of comparison, the Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon installed
at Foothill/Ferrini near where I live was a game changer for having a safe route to school across a busy arterial.
Thank you for making our city a better place for people who walk and bike.
Sincerely,
Jesse Englert
