Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I want to express my support for these crossings as they are all very much needed. I want to encourage you to proceed
with the road diet and crossing improvements at Johnson and Sydney. The current configuration of Johnson encourages
fast vehicle speeds which make crossing very dangerous and stressful especially for those walking and biking. This
intersection actually was one of the main reasons we opted for a different daycare provider. Originally our son was
offered a daycare spot at Little Sprouts right here at this intersection. As a family that primarily gets around by biking
and walking, crossing this intersection multiple times a day seemed like it was just a matter of time before something
terrible happened. We were going to be forced to drive our son to and from daycare instead of using
healthier transportation options out of safety concerns. Luckily we were offered a spot elsewhere which we opted for.
(Side note, finding childcare in this town sucks and is stressful too!)
Johnson has a long way to go to be a comfortable and safe multi-modal corridor, but this proposed improvement is a
step in the right direction.
