Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Hello- My name is Andrew Kean and this comment pertains to tomorrow’s City Council meeting agenda, specifically your discussion on “AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE 2022 PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT, SPECIFICATION NO. 1000069”. My family and I live near King/South streets and cross at that location daily to visit Meadow Park and friends. Many of our friends use that crossing to walk their children to Hawthorne school. While the staff-recommended improvements for this location are a step in the right directly, I am asking the City Council to prioritize the design and implementation of a PHB at this location rather than the recommended RRFB. I recognize the report from Matt Horn/Justin Wong mentions that funding opportunities are being pursued for a PHB signal, but I am asking that the City find the funding to do this improvement now. “Kicking the can down the road” is not a great approach to pedestrian safety (specifically kids going to school). With the growth of the City towards the Airport, South St. traffic seems to be getting busier and faster with each passing year. Please ask your staff to start design for a PHB signal at South/King now with construction scheduled as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and for your service to the City and citizens of San Luis Obispo. Andrew Kean 377 High St. San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 1
