Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. I had sent some comments of neighbors on a thread on Next Door last eve. The format didn’t come out well on the agenda correspondence. So here I’ll express my views regarding this bike lane, again. This has been a contentious issue for several years. I think the part that bothered me the most, with that meeting, 4 years ago, was that most of the proponents were not from our neighborhood, yet wanted to totally disrupt the flow of our streets, so they could pass THROUGH it. They talked of near misses, or accidents, but none of them occurred in our neighborhood! (One guy even brought in his bent wheel, for theatrical flair, but his mishap happened across town, NOT in Anholm) Children were exploited, brought in en masse, reading “their” letters, obviously written by their parents. (Full disclosure, I have five grand kids that I adore, so I’m not anti kid) My biggest concern is that this is NOT safe for our little kids! As a retired nurse, I have seen many tragedies, and tend to think in more preventive measures. We can wait until the first child is injured, or recognize this as a terrible plan, and avoid it. A false sense of security in these lanes, combined with having people back out of their driveways, across two opposing lanes of bike lanes, then into traffic, is a recipe for disaster. Someone will absolutely get hurt, or worse…what is the city’s liability with that?! We have more walking citizens in our Anholm neighborhood, as one can walk far after our riding days are over. Since 1984 I have walked my kids and grandkids, in strollers and wagons, and more recently, my ailing husband in a wheelchair. We have been resigned to walk in the street due to lack of ADA curbs, condition of sidewalks, and lack of crosswalks. That’s all most of us wanted for our neighborhood. The plan before us is a disaster. Debbie Anthony Mountain View Street, Anholm, SLO 1
