Bike SLO County encourages infrastructure improvements that increase safety for all people who bike or walk, especially for youth riding or walking to school. We are committed to serving our community by promoting improved safety through education and expanded infrastructure. We feel the improvements planned by the City for the Johnson Avenue and Sydney Intersection Improvement Project will make a more safe walkable and bikeable crossing of Johnson Avenue. We believe the plan to reduce the number of travel lanes on Johnson Avenue will significantly improve what is now an unsafe pedestrian crossing due to the speeds of motor vehicles, limited visual sighting, and the wide expanse of the roadway. The improvement will have a positive impact by lowering vehicle speeds, creating a center median refuge, and improving the visibility for all users. The Pedestrian Crossing Improvements Project will improve the safety in the City of San Luis Obispo. We urge you to approve Item 6i Authorization to Advertise 2022 Pedestrian Crossing Improvements Project, which will significantly and positively impact the community for many years to come. Sincerely, Gary Havas Board President Rick Ellison Executive Director 860 Pacific Street, Suite 105, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 - (805) 547-2055
