RE: July 19 City Council Meeting Agenda Item 7.c.
Dear San Luis Obispo Councilmembers,
On behalf of the Central Coast Labor Council, representatives of over 70 local labor unions and 100,000
members and their families within the Central Coast region, I would like to ask you and your colleagues
to consider options to increase local hire provisions through a citywide Community Workforce
Agreement (CWA). The implementation of a CWA on the SLO City Water Resource and Recover
Facility project (WRRF) has helped ensure
the community as well. With nearly 80% of the workforce being skilled local workers, it has set a
superior standard in public works construction.
We ask you to come to an agreement with Building Trades Council (BCTC), and to negotiate, in good
faith, an agreement utilizing the Tri-Counties BCTCs proposed CWA contract.
Continuing to hire skilled workers to improve the city infrastructure in their own community, while
making a living wage along with benefits such as health care, will have a positive impact on the city, the
residents and the local economy.
Please consider a citywide CWA and thank you for your leadership on issues that affect working
families.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Goldberg
Executive Director
