Dear Council Members,
I understand there is a meeting tonight to address the need for pedestrian crossings in our town. I
would ask that you seriously consider a signal at South/King that is a PHB or a traditional signal
rather than just a RRFB signal.
I live in the Woodbridge condos and South St is on the back side of my condo. I can attest to cars
going at a high rate of speed regularly and a large traffic flow at certain times of day. I have walked
two of my grandchildren to Hawthorne Elementary school many times and I am always hyper vigilant
when we need to cross South St at King. Most cars just zoom by while we are standing there waiting
for a clear path and then we have to run for fear any on coming cars won’t slow down or stop.
Sometimes we have had to stand in the middle of the medium and wait for a clearing to complete our
crossing.
While I agree that a cross walk and flashing light would be a step in the right direction I don’t believe it
goes far enough due to the speed that the cars are traveling. A more traditional signal would definitely
help ensure the safety of the many who cross at this juncture. It is my understanding that SLOCOG’s
Community Betterment Funding recommends this as their first choice and I believe that is the right choice for
our community.
Thank you for listening
Sheila Cochran
