Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Tree Committee, Please do not approve removal of this splendid ficus (685 Higuera). It makes no sense to remove our largest most amazing downtown ficus trees, nor to trim them into toothpicks that eliminate the street canopy (like Chorro from Higuera to Marsh). 1 As climate warms we need all the ambient tree cooling and carbon sequestration we can get, and the best of both comes from existing trees like this one. If a downtown tree is truly nearing "end of life," it makes sense to plant a replacement nearby and let it grow up before removing the oldster so there's a continuously working canopy. It seems so many of our old trees are needlessly being removed. The city's goal of 10,000 additional trees seems to be hobbled by its simultaneous 10,000 stumps program. Thank you. Richard Schmidt 2
