Occupation: Architectural Historian/Businessperson
Education and Qualifications: Let me start with my cell phone, 805-470-0983, because city
government does unsexy things you don't notice till they go wrong, and there should be
someone on the council who cares when they go wrong for you. When I moved to San Luis
Obispo, I said Hallelujah! that here was a city that encouraged citizens to be involved in
government. In two years serving on the city's Jack House Committee, I worked to double
visitation and proudly received the Park Department's Volunteer of the Year Award. But now
the Jack House and Garden are chained shut. In five years on the Cultural Heritage Committee,
I was able to save important landmarks from the Chumash aqueduct to the Froom Ranch Round
Barn. But I saved one too many, and the council fired me because I described a development
proposal based on 5 distinct falsehoods as "nuts." Immediately after, the FBI interviewed me for
my knowledge of corruption in city development permits.
Like any normal person, I loathe politics but know policy affects each aspect of our local lives.
I'm wary of promises of sexy solutions; I distrust virtue -signaling. But honesty and attention to
detail is how the good guys win in city government.
