Subject:City Council Meeting, Item 5f: railroad fencing

Dear Mayor and City Council members,
Item 5f: railroad fencing needs to be pulled from the consent agenda and the project should not move forward until a
plan is made for a safe bike/ped crossing of this 1+ mile section. The city should not be spending close to a half a million
dollars on dividing the community.
Instead the city should use this money to develop a plan for all railroad crossings & right-of-way needs. Then this project
to construct the fencing can be used as a bargaining tool.
The City of SLO should look at all of the railroad crossings & right-of-ways that are needed in the city and combine the
approval process with the CPUC & UPRR into one project, rather than piecemealing what needs to happen. This will
allow the city to go all in on this one time (using state politicians, LOSAN project advocates, etc.) and be done once-and-
for-all with this major hurdle to a fully connected low stress active transportation network in SLO.
