Zone 9 is an Advisory Body of the County Board of Supervisors (BOS) consisting of six primary members and six alternate members. The City of San Luis Obispo has three seats on this Advisory Body that are appointed by the City Council with each seat having both a primary designated member and an “alternate” designate d member. The membership breakdown is as follows: - City Council member (selected during the annual Council Subcommittee Assignment process) - City Staff member (Typically, the primary member is either the Public Works Director or City Engineer with the alternate member being from the Public Works Engineering staff. Recommendations and appointments are made per the Zone 9 Bylaws in December of “every other even numbered year.” - Public member (Recruitment for the primary and alternate position are done during the City’s annual Advisory Body annual recruitment cycle , which ends March 31st, but the appointment’s start/end dates follow the Zone 9 Bylaws – January 1 through December 31.)
