City Staff Present: Public Works Director, Acting City Arborist Anthony Whipple,

1. CALL TO ORDER
A Regular Meeting of the San Luis Obispo Tree Committee was called to order
on July 25, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room at City Hall, 990 Palm
Street, San Luis Obispo, by Chair Canella.

3.a CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES - JUNE 27, 2022 TREE COMMITTEE
MINUTES
Motion By Vice Chair Lucas
Second By Member Bate
To approve the Tree Committee Minutes of June 27, 2022.
Ayes (6): Member Bate, Member Bonifas, Member Rosten, Member
Weller, Vice Chair Lucas, and Chair Canella (one vacant seat)

4. TREE REMOVAL APPEALS
4.a 685 HIGUERA STREET TREE REMOVAL APPEAL
Acting City Arborist Anthony Whipple and Public Works Director Matt Horn
presented the staff report and responded to Committee inquiries.
Appellant, Nicholas DePaoli, provided a brief overview of the project and
responded to questions raised.

Motion By Member Bate
Second By Chair Canella
The Tree Committee denied the appeal and recommended that staff remove
the concrete panels, use an air spade and vacuum to remove the dirt
around the tree to see if there is the possibility to grind the roots down and
replace the concrete. If the acting City Arborist confirms that saving the tree
is not possible after these actions, then the tree should be removed and
replaced with a 36-inch box tree from the City's Master Tree list.

5. COMMENT AND DISCUSSION
5.a ARBORIST REPORT
Acting City Arborist Anthony Whipple provided an update of upcoming
projects and activities in the Tree Division.
6. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 6:48 p.m. The next Regular Meeting of the Tree
Committee is scheduled for August 22, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Hearing
Room at City Hall, 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo.
