RE: Monday, 9/26 Tree Committee Meeting
Tree Removal Application for 1422 Monterey Street
Item 4.a
Greetings,
As a 41 year resident at 1420 Palm Street, I have an interest in the development of 1422
Monterey Street.
I have reviewed the reports submitted by the applicants. While it is sad to see their request
for 54 trees to be removed, I do know that many of them are stressed from poor care and
years of drought. The very large redwood is case in point. I do wonder however, if more
care could inspire more vigor.
That said, I would like to advocate for the silk oak trees (#22-25) along the railroad right
of way. They are well established trees that provide a buffer for the tracks and homes for
various birds. I do not believe they impact the project significantly.
I would also like to see the jacaranda (#14) street tree allowed to remain. I believe this tree
would very much benefit from a bit of care and the removal of the black acacia that is
crowding it. The improvement since another black acacia was removed on the west side is
significant. The tree is at least 15 years old, just now coming into it's prime. I see
absolutely no reason to start over with a new little tree.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
