Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Note - this message inadvertently sent before it was finished - this is the completed comment. Please disregard the prior email. We are writing as public comment on the pending appeal of a denial of the removal of 4 London Plane trees near 905 Bluebell Way, SLO. We believe this matter may be on the 9/26/22 agenda for the tree Committee. We understand that the homeowner in the adjacent condo at 905 Bluebell Way is appealing a previous denial of the tree removal permit. We are strongly of the opinion that denial of this appeal by the Tree Committee is in the best interests of the community. The 4 London Plane trees in question are all large, healthy specimens. They enhance the entryway to our community visually. They also ecologically sound - replacing them with smaller trees is a step backward on offsetting green house gases. The appellants concerns over the trees' impact on the adjacent rose garden and minor heaving of a HOA owned sidewalk are readily remedied with tree root pruning. As members of the Summerhills HOA that includes this area we note that the 4 trees in question are not the property of the condo owner at 905 Bluebell - they are HOA property. As such, we question the standing of the appellant in this case to make a request to reverse the prior denial by the Tree Committee. We also note that the removal of these 4 healthy and large trees has not been known widely among the 78 HOA member houses. We expect that a majority of the Summerhills HOA members would urge the Tree Commission to uphold its denial of the permit.
