Subject: Public Comment: EIR Cal Poly Dorm Expansion Grand Avenue /Slack Street
To Whom it May Concern:
My husband and I live at 2076 Hays Street in the neighborhood adjacent to the proposed dorm expansion plans at Slack
St. and Grand Avenue. We are opposed to this proiect °s location because it would be incompatible with the
existing neighborhood. Our reasons are below.
1) The increased traffic on Grand Avenue will cause further gridlock and bring even more unskilled drivers into our
neighborhood trying to find alternative routes. The meridian on Grand Avenue already inhibits visibility and complicates
exit from our street.
2) It is wishful thinking that the traffic increase would be confined to 1430 students. These students have parents and
friends and will require police, fire, emergency services as well as frequent trips by moving companies, US Postal Service,
UPS, FED EX, transit buses and trash collection.
3) The student population currently occupying residences in this neighborhood have all but destroyed the quality of
life. This neighborhood was once very desirable and upscale and would otherwise be occupied by single families. We
object to adding to the problem.
4) STUDENTS DO NOT MAKE GOOD NEIGHBORS. Since living here our sleep has been disturbed every single Friday
night and often other nights while students have their drunken pong parties. Our speaking to them, personally, has had
no effect.
I do not think it is unreasonable to expect undisturbed sleep for myself and my guests. I do not think it is unreasonable to
expect that I can play my own music in my own home or listen to my TV without the sound being blocked by a party 4
doors down. Calling the cops places the burden on the city and works only for the short term.
We object to
a. beer cans strewn about lawns and make shift party furniture left out
b. trash cans left street side for the entire week
c. parking encroachment
d. puke in the gutters
e. urinating on lawns
f. indecent exposure
g. screaming and yelling at all hours
h. trashing rental homes so that landlords never make improvements
i. vehicles on front lawns
j. intimidation of elderly residents some of whom are retired Cal Poly Professors!
k. loud music from out door speakers and vehicles parked street side at parties
5) The disgusting and irresponsible social habits of some Cal Poly students requires that their dorms be further away
from city neighborhoods. Buffer zones should be considered and, honestly, we don't care if they are inconvenienced by
have to walk a little farther.
Sincerely,
Laurel & Saeed Davar
