Dear Council Members,
I know you're all concerned about "housing." And that "housing" is one of your top goals. So I don't understand why you
put up with staff's refusing to enforce your vacation rental ordinance (i.e., there are hundreds of whole units of housing
being rented by the night, with no permanent residents, and this is against your ordinance -- and should become actual
housing for your constituents, not a source of TOT for the city, which is probably why staff is directed towards non-
enforcement).
I also took note of the following, from a visitor publication put out by a visitor front that's financed by the city. Does your
concern for "housing" mean that you want to encourage equity refugees from elsewhere to snap up our housing at what
seem to them like bargain prices, or to encourage out-of-town speculators and "investors" to purchase housing here for
profiteering, including for vacation rentals? Because that's what the city's contribution to this tourism front group is actually
doing. Frankly, when the city starts talking about "housing," I see a whole lot of working at cross purposes, nonsensical
propaganda, with a plenteous dollop of good old fashioned hypocrisy.
