Dear Senator Laird,
Thank you for meeting with me today. Our discussion will be about a very serious matter, that boils
down to Public Safety.
September 14, 2019 1 lost my Son Thomas in a horrible way. He fell from a Parking Structure in San Luis
Obispo, CA. There were no protective coverings on the windows, no cameras, and no call boxes in the
structure.
My Son was the 3rd person to die in one of these parking structures in a 5 year period.
People say that I should sue the Parking structure for the lack of safety and security. I say that it won't
bring my Son back, but I am making it my mission to bring safety to all people, so that this will not
happen again.
San Luis Obispo is in the process of building a new Parking Structure, which will be built with all the
safety features I am asking for. I have taken pictures of other Parking Structures that all have the
features I am speaking of. The only pictures I did not print today are the call boxes which are located at
least every 35 feet or so in these structures.
I met with the San Luis Obispo City Council several months ago. Mayor Heidi Harmon, City Attorney
Christine Dietrick, and City Manager Derrick Johnson all expressed their condolences, and asked me to
meet with them. I expressed again that my intent is to get these structures fixed, and after hearing that
there is no money to do this, I told them I would go to Sacramento to ask for the money.
I am asking you to help me get these structures fixed, before anything else can happen to someone.
I have some photos copied to show you some solotions.
Let's say, that public safety is number one with us. We will not have any more unfortunate things
happen to anyone else.
Cameras, by the way usually prevent crimes. Criminals usually avoid buildings with cameras and call
boxes.
I am just one person, a Mother, who is grief stricken. But I cannot let this situation go and let anything
else happen to anyone else.
