We provide research and evidence-based First 5 San Luis Obispo County recommendations from a health perspective on proposed land use projects, -Help Housing ordinance and general plan amendments, and special projects. Rideshare Safe Routes to School Smart Share Housing Solutions SLO Council of Governments HCWG has reviewed the 1422 Monterey Street Project. SLO County Departments: Air Pollution Control District HCWG strongly supports this project as a much needed low income and Board of Supervisors senior housing project in an ideal location to achieve community health Public Health Environmental Health goals. At least 25.4% of low-income renters in San Luis Obispo County 1 SLO County YIMBY spend more than half of their income to meet their basic housing needs. SLO Legal Assistance Foundation Low income families are generally likely to live in unsafe, unstable, and unaffordable housing. Providing access to affordable housing enables residents to use their income on basic needs such as food and medical RESOURCES: Data Dashboard, SLO Health Counts HCWG also supports the inclusion of bicycle parking to encourage active forms of transportation among prospective tenants. This project is located Community Health Improvement Plan in an ideal area for active transportation, such as walking and biking, or public transportation services like buses, shuttles, and rideshares. Both Building Healthy Communities: Residential active and public transportation services are associated with increased Checklist 2,3 physical activity among residents. The project location is also accessible to many services, amenities, and jobs. Low-income families and persons often have limited or no access to personal vehicles and the lack of accessibility to services can be a barrier to beneficial health outcomes.
