Planning Commission: Please save the 54 trees (Redwoods etc.) at 1422 & 1480 Monterey Street, the former site of Karlskint-Crum Nursery. Despite the City of San Luis Obispo's claim to fight Climate Change they allow the removal of mature trees all over town in exchange for huge, ugly, poorly-designed buildings. The City instead allows developers to plant tiny saplings as replacement trees which, as you know, will not sequester nearly the carbon that the large mature trees would for many, many years. The City is quickly allowing the destruction of our precious Urban Canopy while merely paying lip-service to the critical issue of Climate Change. Why not incorporate the mature trees into the project's design? Are architects using computer-design instead of their brains & skills? This needs to be stopped for the sake of our community & our planet. I went to Physical Therapy 3 times a week for a few years & parked at the Palm St. upper portion of this site & was amazed to see the beautiful trees every time I visited, especially the Redwoods & the wonderful avian habitat they provided. They merely need water in the midst of draught & climate change. The city has the recycled water to help our urban forest alive & healthy. Please help preserve these beneficial, wonderous 54 trees by denying the removal & recommend a redesign. The future residents of the project would also have their lives enhanced by keeping the trees. Thank you for your consideration. 1 Sincerely, C.C. McLean San Luis Obispo 2
