________________________________
I apologize for the late submission of this letter. I am 36 year resident of the city of San Luis Obispo.
I am very disturbed and disheartened at the scope of this project in the location where it is. We live near the high school
and so have first hand knowledge of the impact of traffic, especially for the start and end of the school day. We try as
much as possible to avoid those times, because it can mean a significant wait, as well as dealing with impatient drivers,
students and parents alike. The feed from Monterey Street, with this project being one block away, onto California
Street, will only heighten this significant problem.
Also, the plans for removing 54 established trees, including some with significant diameters, is very upsetting. Especially
in a drought, and especially when the city talks about their climate change priorities, with the carbon sequestration that
older trees, not trees planted for mitigation, provide. Considering the removal of these trees is not consistent with the
City’s goals. And the comment that redwood trees don’t do well in our climate? I have three rather large ones living right
next door to me. That is a comment that is unsubstantiated and intended for manipulation.
And five stories? There has already been enough development to stifle the healing views of our mountains- please don’t
allow another huge project like this, which will literally stick out like a sore thumb.
Please deny this project as it stands-
P.S. If for some reason this does move forward, then please study what Redwood City has done, in saving redwood trees
that were removed for development- granted, it is expensive, but they have boxed up these trees and replanted them
elsewhere.
Sincerely,
Wendy Lucas
