The document can be viewed and downloaded on the City’s website here: https://www.slocity.org/government/department-directory/community-development/planning-zoning/general- plan/safety-element. The Climate Adaptation and Safety Element assesses the city’s vulnerability to hazards in the San Luis Obispo area and establishes goals, policies, and implementation measures to protect people, property, and the natural environment. It is designed to realize an equitable, resilient community that thrives despite the changing climate and other known hazards. This safety element update also includes policies and programs addressing environmental justice. Work on the safety element update has spanned over the last two years and includes extensive community engagement and the Hazards and Vulnerability Assessment work produced through the Resilient SLO project, funded with a Caltrans Adaptation Planning Grant (additional information on the Resilient SLO project can be found here: https://www.slocity.org/government/department-directory/city-administration/office-of-sustainability- and-natural-resources/resilient-slo-2246.) The Draft Climate Adaptation and Safety Element is also available on Open City Hall to obtain community feedback (https://www.opentownhall.com/portals/189/Issue_12406). Notifications are sent to all Open City Hall subscribers and additional news items and social media posts will occur next week. The Planning Commission reviewed the workshop draft element on October 26, 2022, and the Commission is scheduled to review the public hearing Draft Climate Adaptation and Safety Element and environmental review document at their public hearing scheduled on December 14, 2022. The City Council is tentatively scheduled to review and consider the Draft Climate Adaptation and Safety Element on January 17, 2023. Please reach out to myself or Teresa McClish with any questions.
