Hello all,
My name is Marysia. I write to you without the ability to attend tonight's city council meeting for public
comment, but with intention to contribute my voice to the discussion as a community member who has
moved to the area this fall at age 25. I specifically wish to support addressing the Climate Crisis at a
municipal level in present and future contexts - with the understanding that the council's decisions
regarding Climate Action will ripple in impact across present space and coming times. I make my age
known to amplify the broadly urgent concerns of my generation which will continue to demand political
actions that have concern for our planet and climate. As an educator and aunt, I am also using my voice on
behalf of rising and yet to be born generations in SLO and beyond who are impacted by our politics.
I write to advocate for the city of San Luis Obispo to continue centering actions for our climate and
community as a major municipal goal, and specifically my support for item 7a on the agenda at tonight's
City Council meeting (12/13/22). And, with gratitude for the team who has prepared the 2023 - 2027
Climate Action Plan Work Program!
I am fueled by the joy and responsibility I feel in the wellbeing of myself, family, friends, strangers and all
other species I get to coexist with here at home. A contributing factor to my move to the SLO area was
fueled by getting to live in a place with a powerful sense of intergenerational involvement, collaboration,
and centering of care for environment. As a previous teacher and directing member of an outdoor education
organization, I want to emphasize my perspective on the word 'environment' which I see reflected in the
city's climate action plans, as a concept defined as one in which our human community is integrated with
the special ecosystems we inhabit. This is why I believe simultaneous care for land and people as actions of
Climate Justice are essential to prioritize in plans for creating a Carbon Free SLO.
Thank you for all of your efforts towards this kind of caring which I hope to see continued and expanded on:
by centering Climate Action, Open space, Sustainable Transportation; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion;
Housing and Homelessness; as well as Economic Recovery, Resiliency, and Fiscal Sustainability.
Warm regards,
Marysia Borucinska-Begg
