Standard 2:The historic character of a property will be retained and preserved.The removal of
distinctive materials or alteration of features,spaces and spatial relationships that characterize a
property will be avoided.
Standard 9:New additions,exterior alterations,or related new construction will not destroy
historic materials,features,and spatial relationships that characterize the property.The new work
will be differentiated from the old and will be compatible with the historic materials,features,size,
scale and proportion,and massing to protect the integrity of the property and its environment.

Building Site
Designing adjacent new construction that is
compatible with the historic character of the site
and preserves the historic relationship between
the building or buildings and the landscape.
Introducing new construction on the building site
which is visually incompatible in terms of size,
scale,design,material,or color,which destroys
historic relationships on the site,or which dam-
ages or destroys important landscape features…
Removing non-significant buildings,additions,
or site features which detract from the historic
character of the site.
Removing a historic building in a complex of
buildings or removing a building feature or a
landscape feature which is important in defining
the historic character of the site.
