Subject: Cal Poly Dorm Complex
Dear Council Members:
As long term residents of San Luis Obsipo we were very disappointed in the outcome of the vote of the Council last night
regarding the Cal Poly Student Housing South project adjacent to our neighborhood. We appreciate the support from the
two council members for the proposal to enter into further discussion about this student housing project. But, we were
extremely disheartened and dismayed by the two council members who apparently don't want to consider any
further discussion because they have so much on their plates they don't have time for us. It is particularly distressing to
us that these are two council members that we supported and voted for in the recent election. And Mayor Marx I am so
sorry that you were not able to join in any part of the discussion or comments.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why all of you did not support us in our effort. Words fail me.
We understand that the administration wants what is best for the students and we have been supportive of additional on-
campus housing for a long time. The two student housing complexes that have been built in recent years have been
wonderful. However, this project, adjacent to our R -1 neighborhood, is entirely different. It has so much negative
potential for the nearby residents.
cannot believe that there is not a better place to put this dormitory complex. As I asked at the meeting last night - where
do they plan to put the additional 5,000 students who will be descending on our town sooner than we'd like to think. The
city needs to get involved!!
With bitter disappointment,
Carol & Donley Winger
