I live in SLO and I am writing to urge you to make diversity, equity and inclusion policies a top priority in all affairs of our
city.
As a white woman of a certain age I have lived in Los Angeles and grew up in a diverse community where I went to
school with fellow students of many backgrounds. My own family is bi-racial.
I know well the benefits of a diverse community as well as the pervasive harm to all resulting from inequity.
A major downside here in SLO is the preponderance of white people, especially in professional positions.
If you look around, anyone can see people of color fill the lowest paid strata of the workforce. And they cannot afford to
live here!
As important a priority is to increase the supply of truly affordable housing in our city by every possible means. We have
a very long way to go.
