Subject: Measure Y Renewal
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I wish to share with all of you my support for the concept of permitting the voters the opportunity to render a
decision on whether or not to renew Measure Y. I am asking Council Members Smith and Carpenter to
reconsider your earlier vote and join with the other three to permit the renewal to be placed on the ballot. Even
if you can't support it in its current form, I think far preferable to let the voters make that decision. Otherwise,
you are effectively making the decision for them because of the higher barrier. Baring that change in your
votes, I would suggest that by majority vote the Council recommend formation of a Citizens Committee to
gather signatures to place it on the ballot. I think that could be accomplished.
Sincerely
Lauren R. Brown
