Poly. A large number of students genuinely wish they could be in attendance today, however most of them are visiting their families for quarter break. These students wish to express their disappointment in the fact that the forum day and time were changed. Unfortunately, the final date that was chosen inadvertently conflicts with Cal Poly's one and only quarter break between winter and spring quarters. Thus, in lieu of our physical presence, this letter represents the views and interests of the entire student body. The housing south project brings with it the opportunity to increase the number of high achieving Cal Poly students who are like- minded with the current student body. A huge portion of students on campus participates in one or more of the 300+ university clubs and service organizations, which in turn provides a platform for students to develop tactical leadership experience and other life skills. We need not remind you of how Cal Poly students excel academically in comparison with other 4 -year undergraduate universities. Our students are often chosen to participate in prestigious co -ops and internships located throughout the United States including opportunities with NASA and the United States Congress. More recently the California Strawberry Commission has partnered with Cal Poly students to assist in research efforts regarding new sustainable growing practices. It is our hope that the community of San Luis Obispo recognize the value and positive impact Cal Poly students bring to not only this community, but to the State of California and the U.S. We want city officials and permanent residents to know that Cal Poly students truly respect San Luis Obispo and they regularly give back to the community that has become our home away from home. The students want to work with the community, not against them. As representatives of the Advocacy Committee, which is a sub - committee of the ASI Board of Directors within ASI Student Government, we ask that you look at the benefits of the proposed plan and embrace the growth that it would result in for our community. We take our role as neighbors very seriously and look forward to continue to participate in city -wide forums and organizations including Good Morning SLO, the Downtown Association, City Council and other local constituent events and activities. One of the Advocacy Committee's main goals is to remind others that Cal Poly students are an integral part of San Luis Obispo and neighboring towns. The increased number in students who will reside on campus are likely to be similar to those who are involved acid desire to achieve in all areas of life. Please take into account the student perspective and the invitation to work collaboratively to find solutions for both the community and students. Cal Poly students have listened intently to resident's concerns. Now we ask that you view the plan from a student's perspective and take into consideration the good that we bring to San Luis Obispo. Together we can find a solution that will continue cultivating successful Cal Poly graduates for a secure place in our society. Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to working together in the future, as we continue to be one community.
