Honorable Members of the Planning Commission:
We are writing to support the resolution of the Planning Commission of San Luis Obispo, CA denying
the construction of a single-family dwelling, accessory dwelling unit, and access bridge, and denying
a request for an exception from the required creek setback, as represented in the staff report and
attachments dated January 25, 2023.
The construction of our home located at 871 Patricia Drive was completed in 1989 and we have lived
here since then. At the time our home was built, we were specifically told by the City that NONE of
the concessions requested by Eric and Julie Michaels would be allowable. We understand that times
change, but NONE of the underlying reasons for denying us an opportunity to request exceptions
have changed. For more than 30 years we have seen many species of wildlife use the creek corridor.
It is undeniable that bridging the creek would adversely effect that. The building of an ADU
immediately adjacent to several other properties would ruin views of Bishop Peak and erode property
values in the neighborhood. We share a property line with the Michaels' and have been disturbed in
the past by their willingness to illegally cut down trees in the creek area. If they continued to do so, it
would further negatively impact views in the neighborhood.
The scale of the proposed project is entirely out of proportion to the neighborhood. We agree that any
attempt at appropriately redesigning the current project would be futile. We agree that the proposed
project design is not consistent with the City's Community Design Guidelines for Creekside
Development. The only appropriate decision is to deny the project in its entirety. Thank you for
considering our input.
