I think the City should look for ways to provide free parking downtown to help the merchants and citizens alike. I am a
retired, low income senior that does not have a handicapped parking permit, and really cannot afford to pay for parking
downtown. I rarely visit downtown for this reason. I have to park several blocks away to avoid parking meters. And
while I do use the Public Library, which is supposed to be free, I can only park for one hour in the parking garage.
I do not like the increased density the City is working towards; it makes me feel crowded and uncomfortable. No matter
where you go it is difficult to find parking, and I really enjoy driving my car. I live too far away to walk downtown. I am
over 70. I like open spaces. I don't want to just see buildings everywhere I look, or people. I think overcrowding only
makes people anxious and unhappy. I know how much depression I have suffered since moving into my very small
apartment with only north facing windows.
Increased density just makes all places more crowded. I am so much more comfortable in Los Osos, Morro Bay, Arroyo
Grande, where you can park for free and there are not so many people. I can find a parking space. I don't have to stand
in line and wait for a place to eat or have coffee. I, personally, just do not believe that increased density makes for
happier and healthier individuals.
