I would highly suggest we look to the past two years for reference. In the past two years, our city has been impacted by vast amounts of trash, including human waste, all over town, especially downtown and our beautiful creeks and waterways. I thought our city government cared for green spaces. This is very unsatisfactory. Most of this waste comes from the unhoused, drug addicted people that wonder about. I have personally been accosted on more than one occasion when I was merely walking my dog and even at the shopping centers going to the grocery store. It shows a lack of respect for the community from the city government that this problem is out of control. My husband, on two separate occasions, was accosted by unhoused males with very large knives demanding money. These people are not down on their luck or mentally ill. They are drug addicted criminals that need consequences for their behavior. They are emboldened without it. I have noted many of our tax dollars have been spent on elaborate bike lanes and curbs. I am sure it is to make our community of bikers feel safe and secure. It has. However, our community will not be giving up their cars for bikes any time soon so while it has made biking more safe, it has had a negative impact on traffic. Wouldn't it be better to provide free smooth paths for cars so they do not have to run their motors longer while waiting in traffic? The traffic lights in some busy intersections run too long so it backs up traffic so far. In my neighborhood, Traffic is about 15 to 20 cars in length on Oceanaire Drive with CL Smith school. It takes two or three times for the light to turn green before you can get through that intersection. I have asked a few people I know in Parks and Rec about the Laguna Lake Park. They said it is still in discussion as to whether it will be a passive park or to be more developed. The park is very large and can handle much more. The area near Madonna Road could be used for basketball, pickle ball or tennis courts, even a couple of soccer fields. The dog park area should be fenced in and could accommodate an area separate for small dogs and big or all dogs. There should be more bbq areas. The gazebo in the back could hold concerts like the concerts in the Plaza, maybe on a weekend day. The lake itself needs to be checked regularly to ensure the water is safe and clean. Many golf courses all over the country have lakes this size and are managed well. Parks should be safe and clean which many are not. On a daily basis, we see the drug addicted using drugs or leaving unsafe paraphernalia in our parks where children are intended to play. THIS MUST STOP. What became of the few million dollars the San Luis Ranch payed the city to be able to build more houses instead of having a green space in their project? It needs to stay here for the Laguna Lake Park and not be allocated for other uses! Our city mayor's agenda is to promote diversity and green spaces. How about safe and clean? Seems simple, right? That should be priority. 1 Lorie Norkus lorie.norkus@gmail.com 2
