I have been a neighbor of La Loma Adobe for over 45 years and spent countless hours for the last six as a volunteer
working with City staff and fellow volunteers to reclaim the site and home from years of neglect. I have been a resident
in San Luis Obispo for 50 years and believe that a more diverse and inclusive population is essential if we are to survive
in an increasingly divisive country.
La Loma Adobe is an historical and cultural landmark that deserves stabilizing, preserving and restoring. It is one of the
oldest structures in this city, and is connected with a diverse cultural mix of Indigenous Peoples, Spanish, Mexican and
other immigrants. One of the 2023-2025 city goals is diversity and inclusion. Funding the stabilization and restoration of
this city-owned adobe for appropriate future use, honors the contributions of all peoples who settled here in the past
and welcomes inclusion of people who have been marginalized before and after California became a US possession and
state.
Please consider funding preservation of La Loma Adobe in the 2023-2025 budget cycle to honor our diverse cultural
roots and respect our present diverse population's contributions.
Sincerely,
Norma Frey
