Dear Member of the City Council,
I am writing to you asking that you include La Loma Adobe stabilization, preservation and eventual reuse in the
2023-2025 Budget Cycle. I have studied the list of City Goals for 2023-2025 and support some of them
wholeheartedly. La Loma Adobe preservation is a good fit with the diversity and inclusion goal and to some extent,
sustainability. Early residents of the adobe spoke Spanish and remembering our cultural roots directly relates to
respecting their past contributions to our city's growth and development and those of our present Hispanic
neighbors and friends. State educational curriculum is beginning to recognize that studying California History means
learning about indigenous peoples and early Alta California settlers' customs, culture, economic impact and how
these groups were marginalized. We have an adobe that can become an educational asset and a source of pride for
all our city, county residents and other visitors.
I have been a neighbor of the adobe for over 45 years and a volunteer to reclaim its site from invasive weeds for the
past six years. Improving the neighborhood, lessening fire hazards are good for our neighborhood and our City. We
are working to create a sustainable site that is based on native plants and some other Mediterranean natives that
need little to no dry season water. Please allocate funding the next step to stabilize the adobe's structure in the 2023-
2025 budget cycle. Thank you for your consideration of this project.
Sincerely,
Norma Frey, FLLA Volunteer Coordinator
