Dear Mayor Stewart and Members of the Council,
Here are my top priorities:
1) Neighborhood Wellness. By that I mean focusing time as well as money on residential
neighborhoods. Enforce the noise ordinance. Ensure street cleaning by spot checking contract
employees. Complete curb cuts at residential intersections. Start cleaning and maintenance of storm drains,
culverts and creeks before we get unprepared again (maybe coordinate with Cal Poly fraternities and
clubs). Allocate funds to complete the dredging of Laguna Lake and provide proper drainage from the
lake. Maintenance of residential streets and sidewalks.
2) Infrastructure Maintenance and Repair. This actually dovetails with Neighborhood Wellness. The sewer
system for residential neighborhoods was designed primarily to take gray water from single-family homes, but
now we have as many as 10 adults living in those homes - sanctioned by City policies and compounded by
Cal Poly's lack of sufficient on-campus housing.
3) Fiscal Sustainability. By this I do not mean raising taxes; the City should stay within its means. Do not
begin new programs/projects until those that have been started have been finished. Concentrate on city
functions rather than taking on county or other functions.
Thanks for the time and attention you pay to our city.
Sandra Rowley
