Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Council Members, At some point the City, along with other agencies are going to have to move beyond the "Strategic Plan" phase and actually create housing for the unhoused community. I specifically used the term "unhoused" as opposed to 'homeless" because homeless includes those who have some sort of roof over their heads but not their own housing-- "couch surfing, living in a garage, etc". I just drove by the property that is under receivership that is adjacent to 40 Prado Homeless Shelter. I don't know what the cost of that clean-up is, but I'm guessing into multiples of $100,000's by looking at the aerial image. Since the receiver was able to take out loans against the property there will be a large debt payment due on the property that given what information is available about the property owner he will have no way to pay except selling the property unless he can find someone to rent it to such as a construction company for equipment and material storage. This parcel being adjacent to 40 Prado Rd would be the perfect location for a "Pallet Shelter" community for a lot of reasons. Being adjacent to Prado the administration offices, including security and check in that is already built and doesn't require added administrative office if another site were chosen is another reason that this property should be considered for transitional housing. The property is close to social services and transit. If the City leases the property that provides income to the property owner who will be able to then pay off the loans secured by the property. Or the City could purchase the property. Regardless, it's time to actually do something instead of just "killing trees" creating more plans. Sincerely, Brett Cross Resident San Luis Obispo 1
