Mayor Stewart and Council Members, In case we don't get the chance to cover these points at the Council meeting tomorrow, please see the attached memo. Thank you, Bob Vessely 1 Friends of La Loma Adobe (FLLA) Talking Points for City Council Special Meeting February 11, 2023 Background The City has been hard hit by winter storm damage, requiring a hefty budget diversion leading to reduced budget discretion, compounded by inflation and recession uncertainty. FLLA certainly acknowledges this difficulty as well as the constant competition for priority among the many City goals and responsibilities. But the La Loma offers much to help with those goals. resources will be more important than ever. The arts, SLO REP for example and our historic resources will add a cultural vitality to help to acculturate new residents to our town. Goals such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are fully supported by the La Loma where the stories of the previous cultures in our area are brought to life. The La Loma is positioned to su as an orientation point at the Reservoir Canyon/Bowden Ranch trailhead. The La Loma offers a unique opportunity for the City to leverage the work of a non-profit on a City owned asset. FLLA has done much of the footwork such as commissioning the various evaluation reports that will guide the CEQA process, improving the garden around the building and maintaining the security of the building. Proposal FLLA is very grateful for the support we have received from the City, but we have reached a point where the next steps are beyond our current capability. There is some urgency, the building is deteriorating and FLLA asks that City support the initial steps to stabilize and secure the adobe. FLLA also requests that the City Council commit staffing to negotiate a lot-line adjustment with the downhill neighbor. This step is critical as we have been told that some private funding of the project is dependent of having that resolved. Thank you, Bob Vessely
