At one time, I was a bicyclist riding 150 miles a week. After almost getting run off the road by vehicles a couple of times and riding down canyon roads very fast, I gave it up as being too unsafe, especially as more wineries replaced the cow pastures. I believe it was last week where a bicyclist was killed at Prado and Higuera. A good bike, especially a motorized one, is very expensive (start at $1,500) and we unfortunately have a lot of theft. My two Trek carbons cost approximately $3K each. At these prices, I think paying parking fees are more cost effective. By the way, I couldn’t ride home with any shopping bags if I were to do any downtown shopping. I live about 1/2 mile from the Higuera and Margarita bus stop. These are huge buses that are usually very empty. I would take the bus if it ran more frequently with a downtown location near shopping, especially as a senior citizen if I could get a discount pass. The key: more frequently and the stop locations. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take it at night alone. Up into recently, I visited NYC very often: I always used the public transportation. All of the bus and subway stops were within a short walk, sometimes even steps away. Perhaps, the City should focus on improving what we have first. Regards, Gail Sent from my iPad 1
